About me.

"We write to be able to transcend our life, to reach beyond it. We write to teach ourselves to speak with others, to record the journey into the labyrinth, we write to expand our world when we feel strangled, constricted, lonely. We write as the birds sing."

  -Anais Nin

Jeanette is a public relations manager for U.S. News & World Report. She earned a bachelor’s in communications and media arts from Empire State University and is working toward an MFA in creative writing from the University of Texas at El Paso. She began her communications career at the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper and later served as a communications officer for the University of Rochester.

At the Democrat and Chronicle, she wrote numerous articles on local business leaders, small businesses, and community news. She has served on the planning committee for Hispanic Heritage Family Day at the Memorial Art Gallery; as chair of the cultural committee for the Latino Professional Alliance at the University of Rochester; and as secretary for the Rochester Puerto Rican Parade. Jeanette is also a 2008 graduate of the United Way’s Latino Leadership Development Program. From 2018 to 2020, she served as a chair of communications for Latinas Unidas and served as chair of the ¡Soy Unica! ¡Soy Latina! Rally for young girls.

Her mother emigrated to the U.S. from Mexico in 1965 and her father is a third-generation Mexican American. Jeanette moved to the Rochester area from her hometown of San Antonio, Texas in 1992 and started a family right out of high school. The road has not always been easy, but she has relied on a strong work ethic, knowledge and experience to work “up the ladder.”  She is a married empty nester and enjoys spending time with her family.
